Beat the Office Blues

Beating The Office Blues

Working all day in an office can be dreary. The florescent lights, ugly carpet and lack of fresh air can leave you drained by 5:00 pm. When you are tired and stressed, the health of your skin can suffer. Luckily, there are some things you can do to keep your energy up, your mood happy, and your body and skin healthy.

Tip 1: Our bodies can only be stationary for so long before becoming uncomfortable. It is important to leave your desk once in a while andstretch your muscles. Instead of emailing or calling a coworker, walk over to their desk to talk to them! Go for short walks once or twice a day, which will help keep weight gain down and focus levels up.

Tip 2: When sitting at a desk all day, it is easy to reach for unhealthy snacks and food. Keephealthy, premeasured snacks at your desk to prevent mindless munching. Snacks like nuts, fresh fruit, turkey and peanut butter will help give you a burst of much needed energy throughout the day.

Tip 3: While it is tempting to sit at our desk throughout lunch and check emails, do a little online shopping and catch up with our friends, it is so important tostep away from your desk for your lunch hour. Get outside; enjoy the sun/clouds/rain etc, and breath in the fresh air.

Tip 4: For those of you who are brave enough to endure ridicule from your co-workers,bring an exercise ball to sit on instead of a chair. This will help you to keep proper posture throughout the day, strengthen your core and lower back, as well as help improve your balance. To top it all off, you can burn up to 350 calories per day! Tip 5: Lastly, since you spend so much time at your desk, you shouldfill your area with things that make you happy. Bright colored flowers, a decorative wall calendar, pictures of your family, etc. Placing your favorite things around you will help to boost your mood when your feeling a little blue.
